3 Important Ways to Please God

Becoming a Christian is easy.

After all, salvation comes by grace. We ask and it is ours.

However, the life we lead afterwards can be challenging to get right. What does God expect from the changed us? How do we know the right steps, the correct actions, the proper Godly etiquette in every situation?

Psalm 1:1 gives us three guidelines or rules to get us started:

“Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.”

When we follow these rules, God not only approves, he blesses us. That’s a very good trade for our changed behaviors.

Let’s break down what God wants to see for easier understanding.

Guideline Rule No. 1: Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly.

Swindlers, tax dodgers, people who try to take advantage of others. They are not our friends and should not be our dinner companions. Don’t listen to anything they have to say, because nothing good comes out of their mouths.

Guideline Rule No. 2: Blessed is the man that standeth not in the way of sinners.

Don’t hang around the local tavern. Keep away from gamblers, people whose stock in trade is taking your money to make it their money. Gossips, out the door you go. You’re not welcome here.

Guideline Rule No. 3: Blessed is the man who sitteth not in the seat of the scornful.

No looking down your nose at others. Old car, last year’s clothes, even the homeless person in the park. No scorn allowed. Offer help, instead.

Of course, there’s more to being a Christian than these three rules, but this is a good start. Once you get these down, God will be ready to take you deeper into his Word.

Salvation is yours for free. Now it’s up to you to take the next step.
