It’s easy to blame our misfortunes on lack of opportunities.
However, what about the times we’ve had success in our grasp, and we’ve thrown it away?
What!?! We would never THROW AWAY SUCCESS!! That would be crazy!
Yet, in 1873, a British government committee shunned Thomas Edison’s new-fangled invention, THE LIGHTBULB, as unworthy for practical or sensible men.
Three years later, Alexander Graham Bell offered Western Union the patent for his new TELEPHONE and Western Union derided the device as “idiotic.”
Then in 1962, Decca Records weren’t impressed with a fresh British guitar band by the name of the BEATLES. They described them as scruffy misfits.
Then there’s Kodiak, the camera company, who suppressed their own engineer’s DIGITAL CAMERA CONCEPT in 1975, claiming it would be bad for business. And remember Hewlett-Packard, Atari, and Xerox. How big are those names today? They were at the forefront of technology and missed out on the digital explosion that LEFT THEM BEHIND.
And did you know this? Twelve publishers passed on J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter book series which is worth over $10 BILLION today.
Luke 12:47 tells us we suffer lack of success because we are unprepared to move out of our comfort zone:
“And that servant, which knew his lord's will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes.”
We beat ourselves up when we miss the opportunity. God wants us to grasp it, instead.
Proverbs 1:24 says we need to take advantage of what’s right in front of us:
“Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded.”
What lack of opportunity? God’s hand is reaching out to you.
Ezekiel 3:19 lays out our requirement, and it is to do what we know to do:
“Yet if thou warn the wicked, and he turn not from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul.”
Not every opportunity will pan out. We might not be an overnight success, but if we refuse to grasp the bull by the horns, we will never know success in any measure.
Lack of opportunity? Or are we choosing to throw away our success through lack of initiative, lack of effort, and lack of persistence?
Here’s what God wants from us:
- Prepare ourselves.
- Take his hand.
- Act on the opportunities before us.
Now is your day. This is your time. Your success in God awaits you. Move out in God. His hand is reaching for you.
