The evil one knows you.
Call him Satan, the devil, or the Prince of Darkness, he knows what makes you tick. When he tries to make you stumble, he knows exactly the obstructions to put in your way.
Take Jesus. The Master fasted for 40 days. He was hungry, and that’s where the devil tried to hit him.
“Command these stones to turn to bread.”
“Throw yourself off the high point of the temple.”
“Worship me, and I will give you the world.”
Wha--?!? Worship the devil? That’s going too far even for the Prince of Darkness.
Matthew 4:10 gives us Jesus’ rebuttal:
“Go away, Satan, because it’s written, You will worship the Lord your God and serve only him.”
Pay close attention to these words: Because it is written. Written where? In the Bible, of course.
There’s the trick to staying out of temptation. Get into the Word. Not just on Sunday. Not just with a promise verse every day. We’re talking into the Word … daily!
When we sling the Word back at the Devil, even his minions must turn and run. Let’s start slinging God’s Word today.
