God’s New Thing (part 1 of 2)

God wants us to look to the future, not to dwell on the past. Broken relationships; financial mistakes. Instead, anticipate what is in front of us. If we focus on the past, we are doomed to repeat the past.

God does not want us in defeat because of our past. He wants us to look to the future.

Isaiah 43:18 is clear on what God says. “What's happened is over and done. Don’t keep thinking about it.” Then continue on to Verse 19 where God proclaims, “See, can you not tell that I've got a new plan?”

He goes on, telling us that he is making a way for us in the wilderness, and he is opening up streams for refreshing in the wasteland of our lives.

God wants to change our world, turning it from a wasteland into something wonderful. We have to be on board with his plans, listening to him, and not to the evil one who wants to bring us down. The past is not where God wants us to reside. He wants us to move into his new thing.

To get to God’s new thing, we’ve got to be able to release the past.

There are five things that will help us move into what God has for us in the future. We will cover the first two of these today.

Immerse Ourselves in the Word.

All wisdom comes from him. If we are immersed in the Word, we will know his plans for us, and we will move forward in expectation of his guiding hand.

Read in 2 Timothy 3:16-17 where it tells us that all Scripture is given by God so that his servant may be thoroughly equipped for doing his will.

Keep the Old Testament, the New Testament, the King James Version, or the NIV on our bedside tables. Wrap ourselves in God’s Word.

Forget the Past.

Leave hurts, disappointments, and faded dreams behind. Never talk about them. Never again let them be part of our lives.

Isaiah 43:25 tells us God is the one that covers our sins. He does not remember them anymore.

If anyone brings up our past, it’s not God. It’s the enemy trying to defeat us at every turn, bringing us confusion and doubt.

In our next article on God’s New Thing, we will see how God’s direction is for us to move forward in his will, as he blesses us with his ideas for the new thing he wants for our lives.

If God is giving us ideas for the future, we must turn our backs on past mistakes. We cannot go where he wants us to go, if the past is a boat anchor holding us back.
