We need a bit of duckling DNA to be good Christians.
You read that right. Duckling, as in small feathered fowl.
Here’s what makes ducklings so vital to our Christian walk: When a duckling in born, the first thing it lays its eyes on is considered its parent.
The duckling will follow its parent figure everywhere, emulating every action it sees it do.
Here are four things we are told to follow in 2 Timothy 2:22:
“So flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.”
Not only are we to follow after these things, we are to pursue them. Actively and with every opportunity.
When we see righteousness, let’s get ourselves that direction. That’s what we want to emulate.
Find a faithful believer? Latch on. Keep them in your sight. Copy everything they do that reflects Jesus.
Love . . . when we see the signs – caring for others, generosity, and self-sacrifice – that’s someone to follow in Christ.
Peace. When a fellow Christian reflects true trust in God, when no bad thing can perturb them, when prayer is their answer to trouble, there we will find a peace that passes understanding. That’s what we must strive for.
A true church, a faithful church, will be like ducklings following Jesus. Everywhere our Lord goes, we waddle along after him as fast as our little legs can go.
Let’s keep our eyes on Christ. He’s the only one that can lead us home.
