Too Big for Our Britches

English Audio Version

Click away if you’re not ready for grown-up food.

If you want your peas mushed up before they are put on your plate, you don’t want to read this.

Soft-soled people need not apply. Weak-livered Christians, look aside.

This is only for the strong of spirit who are ready to move into the higher calling of God.

Here it is. Hold on to your belts.

Proverbs 26:12 tells us:

“Do you see a man who is wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him.”

Wise in his own eyes. Let’s work on that first half of the verse.

Have you ever said, “Back off, I’ve got this.”

Yeah, wise in your own eyes.

Or maybe, “That was for then. We know better now.”

Ouch. This is hitting too close to home.

And no one has ever said this: “Wait a minute, God. You want me to do what?”

When children are like this, we call them uppity. Obnoxious. Too big for their britches.

Have we gotten too big for our britches where God is concerned? Have we decided we can pick and choose from the Bible, because those guys back then didn’t know what we know now?

As the verse in Proverbs says, “There is more hope for a fool than for him.”

Oh, my . . . does it really need to be so harsh? Does it have to say it that way?

Let’s repeat . . . Do you see a man who is wise in his own eyes?

Let’s turn over control to God. That’s the only way to become wise in the Master’s eyes.
