Visit a stage performance.
From a distance, the backdrops, stage, and all the trappings seem human-sized.
Yet, step to the curtain, and try to pull it aside, and you’ll find it’s a heavy thing, often the height of a house, and it blocks any attempts to see through to the other side.
Anything can be going on behind that curtain, and the viewers won’t know.
The stage crew can be building a vast scene of backdrops and fakery, and we’ll have no idea until the curtains are opened wide.
What are we hiding behind the curtains we present to the world?
What are we constructing behind the curtains of our public persona that we want to keep hidden from everyone else?
Proverbs 26:12 says:
“Do you see a man who is wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him.”
We need to live a curtain-free life, theater-in-the-round. Every part of who we are must be on display for everyone to see.
It’s proof of our calling in Christ. It’s how we prove to the world that we truly love him.
Let’s toss our curtains aside and fully love the lost for Jesus.
