Sending Satan into the Cold

English Audio Version

Some people can’t be trusted.

They promise us a good time, and as long as we’re paying, they come through. Then the money runs out, and they move on without us.

Or Internet phishing schemes. The offer looks too good to be true (and it probably is). Our only smart choice is to send it to the recycle bin.

The devil tried his moves on Jesus. He found him at his lonely time, his weak spot, and pitched an offer the Son of God couldn’t possibly refuse.

Read about it in Luke 4:6-8.

“And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it. If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine.

“And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.”

Good answer, Jesus. That’s a kick in the teeth for the old sourpuss. You bonked him in the head with the Word of God, bumped him into the cold without a second glance.

We must follow Jesus’ example. When our old party friends come a-calling, “Get thee behind me, for I’m a new creation.”

When New Agers try to prove the Bible is wrong, “Get thee behind me, for the Word of God is truth to me.”

When we are lonely, kick false love in the teeth. When the devil finds our weak spot, bonk him on the head with the truth found in the Bible.

The world will offer us easy solutions that will feel good in the moment, but our job is to turn to Christ and kick Satan into the cold without a second glance.

Christ resisted temptation, and he expects us to do the same.
