We all have lazy days, those times when we really don’t want to make the bed or sweep the back porch.
A dirty car? Who can be bothered? We need to recline the seat, put on some music, and take care of that another day.
How does that work spiritually? Are lazy days okay? Can we say, I’ll clean up my behavior later. Today’s too much trouble.
Romans 8:28 says every situation, even the yucky ones, will lift us closer to God. We can’t let any slip through the cracks.
“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.”
Philippians 4:8 tells us that we must keep our thoughts clean and sparkling all the time. Our choices matter, even in our heads.
“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”
Philippians 4:13 reveals how we get the motivation to maintain God’s standard every day. Our strength comes through the Father.
“I can do all things through him who strengthens me.”
We may not knock doors every day or be on a foreign mission field, but there are some things we can’t let slip because we’re having a lazy day. God’s standard is clear in the Bible. Today’s our day to search out what he expects of us and do it.
As Harold Herring of the Debt Free Army says, “Read your Bible. Do what it says.”
That’s what God expects of us. Let’s get started today.
