High levels of skills are built on previous knowledge.
The carpenter first learns to wield a hammer. The power saw comes when his skill improves.
The Olympic skater must skate in a straight line before she can do twists and jumps.
Even the pianist at church had to ding that first note. That masterful sound didn’t come all at once.
Following Christ is the same. Let’s look at Colossians 2:6-7 to find 3 Levels of Following Christ.
“Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.”
Our first level is to “walk in him.” We choose to align ourselves with Jesus, not with the world. Only then can we go to the next level.
Second, we purpose to be “established in the faith.” We study the Word, surround ourselves with Christian giants, and spend time in prayer. Without this level, the third is out of our reach.
Finally, our ultimate level is to “abound in thanksgiving.” We lift our hands and praise God no matter how dark our circumstance. We abound in thanksgiving. It comes out no matter how badly life treats us.
We’ve seen the established warriors of God and wondered what made them different. They’re on the third level. They’ve found the deep well of praise to the heavenly Father. They know something the rest of us are still searching for.
God is their strength, and nothing else counts in this life.
God wants to be your strength, too. He can be, starting with Level 1. Your walk with Jesus will take you places you never thought you’d go. The journey begins today. This is your time.
Get on board with Jesus. He has plans for you.
