Making Jesus Our Benchmark

English Audio Version

Patrick Henry is famous for his “Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death” speech on March 23, 1775.

Legend tells us Col. William B. Travis of Alamo fame drew a line in the sand with his sword, inviting his compatriots to fight and die together.

At what point do we choose to stand for our beliefs and refuse to give in? When do our convictions become stronger than our need to compromise? We can become so tolerant toward others that we ignore their prejudices, abuses, and cruelties.

Proverbs 25:26 tells us to draw our line in the sand.

“Like a muddied spring or a polluted fountain is a righteous man who gives way before the wicked.”

We should always be kind toward others, even when we disagree with them. Bad manners and a callus attitude don’t belong in a Christian’s lifestyle.

When we tolerate immoral behavior, however, our lives begin to take on aspects of that which we tolerate.

We become muddied with the sin we overlook.

It’s vital that our lives remain unsullied by wrongdoing or immoral acts. Our goal in life is to emulate Christ, and his standard is one of purity before the almighty God.

Jesus is our benchmark, and to fall short is to risk our salvation.
