A weak phone battery is of no use to us. The signal is out there, but our phone won’t be able to find it.
Flashlights are the same. If the battery’s not charged, we’re going nowhere in the dark. We’ll spend our time stumbling across things in our way.
How do Christians think they can traverse the pitfalls of life without plugging in to Christ? God is still out there, but we’ll be too weak in our faith to find our connection to him.
Immersing ourselves in the Word is how we stay plugged in to Christ.
Psalm 119:11 lays out the importance of studying the Bible:
“I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.”
John 14:6 makes it clear there is no other valid power source:
“Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’ ”
Romans 8:38-39 is our teeth-rattling powerline. It’s where we plug in to get charged up. It’s our bolt of lightning out of the blue.
“For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
We must latch onto Christ, plug into his power, and soak in as much of him as we can. He’s our power station. He’s our direct current. He’s the one that gave his life so that we might have eternal life in him.
When we open our Bibles, we’ve engaged the power to live out the redeeming salvation of the cross.
