Our Spiritual To-Do List

Organizational experts tell us the best way to be productive is to make a list of things we need to do. It focuses our thoughts, keeps us on track, and organizes our day into manageable segments we can deal with.

Best of all, it keeps us from becoming overwhelmed at what we need to accomplish.

The Bible is our to-do list, rescuing us from the “What now, God?” syndrome. If we’re unsure where our next spiritual step is, open the Word. It’s right there, a fully implemented plan, spelled out in black and white.

John 14:15 tops our list at Number One:

“If you love me, you will keep my commandments.”

Numbers two and three are interwoven, one for the women, and the other for the men.

1 Peter 3:1, in second place, tells us:

“Likewise, wives, be subject to your own husbands...”

1 Peter 3:7, third on our list, goes on to say:

“Likewise, husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way, showing honor to the woman...”

Our fourth item on our list applies to everyone around us. See Luke 10:27:

“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.”

Matthew 7:1-2 come in strongly at Number Five:

“Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you.”

Romans 12:19 makes a strong showing at Number Six:

“Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, ‘Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.’ ”

This is a simple list, revealing our Christian life to be easy, indeed. We do what God asks; love our spouses; love everyone else, also; don’t judge others; and let God take care of any issues along the way.

Check, check, check, all marked off as done for the day. It’s really that easy to live for Christ. Let’s give it a try.

A Godly life is the only life, because it is the right thing to do.

If something leads us astray, toss it aside and leave it on the side of the road.
