The great and mighty men of today’s church will someday pass from the earth, for it is appointed unto man once to die. Who will be the church then? Where should we search for tomorrow’s leaders, or are they already here?
1 Thessalonians 5:5 tells us that we are all children of light; we are not of the night, nor of the darkness.
We simply need to train our children in the way they should go.
Point #1.
The church of today is responsible for the church of tomorrow.
Today’s children are the church of tomorrow. We cannot afford to set them on the back burner of the church, hoping that one day they will step into the reins of leadership.
Proverbs 22:6 tells us that if we train up a child in the way he should go, he will not depart from it. The training of tomorrow’s great church leaders begins in the children’s church of today.
Point #2.
We must include our children in our faith-based activities, training them in the ways of the Lord, while remembering that children are precious in the Father’s sight.
A mark of a good parent can be found in 1 Timothy 3:4, for a good parent is one that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection.
At the same time, Colossians 3:21 instructs fathers not to provoke their children to anger, lest they be discouraged.
We must hold the next generation at our side no matter where we go or what we do. We read in Matthew 15:38 about the seven loaves and the fishes. The Word says, “And they that did eat were four thousand men, besides women and children.”
The people didn’t leave their children at home to attend Sunday night services. We should be at that baseball game; have our children’s friends over on Saturday night; be a part of their lives.
Point #3.
Our children also have a responsibility, one that grows with them as they mature, physically, socially, and spiritually.
Ephesians 6:1 tells children to obey their parents in the Lord: for this is right. As parents we are to train them to do this.
1 John 5:21 speaks to the church at large, but the passage also speaks to our children when he says to keep ourselves from idols. John may have been speaking to the Christians of the day, but consider the world from our children’s viewpoint. Television. Facebook. Hollywood. Those are where our children find their idols. John’s words are especially applicable to children in today’s world.
We will do well to remember Galatians 4:3, for in this verse, we read that when we were children, we were in bondage under the elements of the world.
We must set our children free from that bondage, for only then can they step into the leadership of tomorrow’s church.
The church of tomorrow can be found in the children’s church of today. We are responsible to bring our children up to be the leaders God needs them to be.
