Great product designs start at the top.
Look at the flat panel television. They’re ubiquitous today, pretty much found everywhere. When they were introduced in 1964, they were cutting edge. Philips marketed them commercially in 1998. A 42” plasma television clicked in at a hefty $15,000.
Today? Pick up an even better version the same size for about three hundred clams. How? Over the past two decades, the technology has filtered down from the top, one layer at a time, so that now, even the cheapest flat panel TVs give us an excellent viewing experience.
Television manufacturers imitating that first excellent Philips TV have brought the technology to everyone. In this case, imitation has been a very good thing.
Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 11:1:
“Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ.”
Paul understood the concept of imitation, of copying the best, of allowing the pinnacle of success to filter down to give everyone access to the latest in quality and design.
We become imitators of Christ…Christians, literally. We turn into followers of Jesus, copycats, clones, people who look and act just like him.
We become like Christ, displaying many of his attributes, and drawing others unto him. We become the essence of our Lord, accessible to all people, and act as the hand of our Father unto his fallen children.
Colossians 3:16 encourages us:
“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.”
This sums up the Christian experience. If we wish to truly follow after Christ, we must imitate him, body and soul, attitude and behavior, in both our public and private lives. We must model ourselves after the greatest design that’s ever been.
We must make our lives an imitation of the words, the intents, the actions, and the very life of Jesus.
We must be imitators of Christ.
When we let Jesus be our role model, every aspect of our behaviors will become just like him.
