Institute of Higher Learning

Having a college degree is a sure-fire way of earning more money.

BusinessInsider.com says that for every lecture attended, college graduates will earn an additional $25,000 over their non-college peers over the course of their working career. That’s just for earning a C or a D. Earnings jump to $42,000 per lecture hour for A’s and B’s.

In addition, the higher our degree level, the better the rewards are. The U.S. Department of Labor says that a professional or doctoral degree will pull down nearly twice that of an associate’s or bachelor’s degree.

This means that the more we put into our education, the more we get out of it.

It’s the same with Christ. When we become Christians, that’s just our high school diploma. If we want to live the good life through Jesus, and we’re talking the really good life, with all the bells and whistles, it takes some serious study time.

Let’s go back to BusinessInsider.com. For every lecture attended…

Let’s reword that for the Christian. For every Sunday school class attended… For every hour spent in prayer… For every cake baked for a neighbor… For every time we’ve mowed the church lawn… For every missionary we’ve helped fund…

Proverbs 1:7 says it most eloquently:

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.”

It’s time to schedule some classes in our Institute of Higher Learning; to beef up our Christian education. There’s a reason Franklin Graham, head of Samaritan’s Purse and son of the legendary Billy Graham, is at the head of his game; why Joel Osteen ministers to tens of thousands; and why Mark Burnett and Roma Downey, creators of the successful television series The Bible, have achieved acclaim.

It’s not luck that these people are successful for Christ. They’ve spent their lives at the Seminary of Christ, at God’s Institute of Higher Learning. They’ve spent time on their knees in prayer, hours studying the Word of God, and unending effort ministering to those in need.

They’ve earned accolades for Christ by preparation under the tutelage of the Almighty God and our Savior and King.

It’s time for the rest of us to sign up for additional courses in being the best Christian we can be. Remember, putting in the hours earning Christ’s degree is a sure-fire way of raining God’s blessings down upon our lives.

Our success in Christ is directly related to the amount of preparation we put into our service for him.
