Chasing After Christ

We learn to play chase early. “You’re it!” Then we run, expecting to be pursued with all diligence.

If we’re tagged, we become the pursuer, and we run flat out to apprehend our goal.

Sometimes we chase after the wrong things.

Jude 1:7 warns us:

“Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding cities, which likewise indulged in sexual immorality and pursued unnatural desire, serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire.”

Romans 1:26-27 is a word of caution:

“For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error.”

Leviticus 18:22 takes exception to modern permissiveness:

“You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination.”

Revelation 18:23 relates our upcoming downfall:

“And the light of a lamp will shine in you no more, and the voice of bridegroom and bride will be heard in you no more, for your merchants were the great ones of the earth, and all nations were deceived by your sorcery.”

Revelation 21:8 describes the fate of the unfaithful:

“But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.”

Luke 6:38 gives hope to the one who chases after Christ:

“Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.”

Life is a game of chase. We’ve all been tagged. We have to run, to pursue what we want to become. If we chase after the world, we’ll come to a bad end. If we chase after Christ, we’ll be at his side when this world comes to an end.

Ready? You’re it!

We can choose anything. When we choose Christ is when we’ve made the good choice.
