Whites are the most notorious of fabrics to maintain to perfection. From white socks to white table linens, how can we get those pesky stains out? We scrub those grass marks, we pretreat that sauce spill, and hot water? We burn through gallon after gallon.
We want our whites to sparkle like new.
God’s Word gives us the answer. All we have to do is add an extra cup of bleach, and all the stains of everyday living will fade from life’s fabric. Then and only then will we take on the brilliance of the Father.
Let’s look at six examples:
Example #1:
Colossians 3:16 tells us the words of Christ will give us wisdom. Our cup of bleach will have us singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, and we will feel thankfulness rise within us.
Example #2:
James 1:12 encourages us that remaining steadfast under trial will bring God’s blessings. The bleach of our endurance will provide for us the crown of life, which is the promise of God.
Example #3:
1 Peter 1:22 assures us that our obedience to the truth will bleach our souls to a new level of purity. We will be filled with a sincere, brotherly love, and we will love one another earnestly from a pure heart.
Example #4:
James 5:20 instructs us that the bleach of our labors purifies others, too. When we bring back a sinner from his spiritual wandering, we will save his soul from death and cover a multitude of sins.
Example #5:
2 Thessalonians 2:15 shows us that our traditions serve as the bleach of holiness. We are exhorted to stand firm and hold to the traditions we have been taught, whether through personal teaching or by the written Word.
Example #6:
Colossians 2:2 reveals the purifying power of God’s love toward us. When we allow his bleach to pour over us, he will encourage our hearts, knit us together in love, and we will know the full assurance of understanding and be given the knowledge of God’s mystery, which is Christ.
Just as in our washing machines, where bleach can miraculously wipe away all the stains that have marred our clothing, so the bleach of God’s holiness can wipe away all the spiritual stains that keep us from shining like him. When we want to truly sparkle, we must read the Word, remain steadfast, be obedient, labor for the sinner, maintain our traditions, and above all, bask in the love of the almighty God.
When we don’t come clean the first time, an extra measure of God will wipe our stains away.
