A chef is a culinary artist. When we dine at the table of a master chef, we expect to feast on fabulous creations that are perfect in every detail.
Can a chef make a simple BLT? Of course. However, it will be no ordinary sandwich. It will come to us toasted with natural butter, sprinkled with sesame seeds, and dusted with the finest of powdered sugar.
Now that’s a BLT.
God expects us to be chefs for him. The world needs to see our finest; for what we do to be done with exquisite taste; for the world’s expectations to be met and exceeded.
It’s like a wedding cake. Leave off the icing, and what do we have? A tower of imperfection.
Even the finest of efforts are unsuccessful if we do not finish what we start.
Ephesians 4:11-13 tells us God will give us the skills to create masterpieces for him.
1 Timothy 4:12 says youth is an asset in God’s kitchen.
2 Timothy 2:15 encourages us to create the best product line we can.
Romans 10:13-15 says everyone can meet God’s culinary standards, and he lists the ingredients we are to use.
2 Corinthians 3:6 points to him as our competent teacher.
It is in Colossians 4:17 that our most important message is laid out. In this verse, Paul speaks to Archippus, a leader in the church, and he admonishes him to take heed to the ministry he has received from the Lord that he fulfills it.
When our bakery gets an order for a dozen cupcakes, that’s easy. It’s when our confectionary masterpieces become a runaway hit that the task becomes harder. It’s no longer a part-time job, one we can do in between all the other things that life expects of us. We have deadlines to meet, contracts to fulfill, and health department inspections to prepare for.
What if we can’t get it all done? We don’t even have the icing on the cake, and we don’t know if we have the time to get it completed before the wedding starts.
Now, let’s ask ourselves. Can we still do that BLT? It’s just a little butter, a few sesame seeds, and a sprinkling of powdered sugar. That’s all it is. When God equips us, he gives us the skills to do the job. What he needs from us is to fulfill the ministry he has given us. Bake those cupcakes. Ice that wedding to magnificence. Serve up a great BLT.
It’s the finishing that counts. Let’s not leave our ministry undone.
God equips us for perfection, so that we can win this world for him.
