Our POLAR God

In 1911, Roald Amunsen led the first expedition to reach the South Pole. He successfully made his conquest on December 14th of that year.

Two years earlier, Frederick Cook and Robert Peary both claimed to have reached the North Pole, each before the other. Some researchers think neither explorer actually stood precisely on the North Pole.

None of these men were first, though. If they had looked, they would have found God already there. Our POLAR God has been part of our world’s polar regions since the day the earth was formed.

Let’s look at our POLAR God:

P – He is our PORTER, the one who opens the door to the Father.

John 10:3 relates the story of the good shepherd, telling us he opens the door to those who follow his teachings.

When we search for Jesus, he makes clear the way to salvation. We are never off course when we walk with him.

O – He reaches to us with an OPEN HAND, and he blesses us.

Psalm 145:16 describes the coming Messiah, giving us a prediction of his glories to come.

Even during times of great desolation, our every desire is met by Jesus, for in him we find the satisfaction of our every need.

L – He offers his blessings LIBERALLY and without restriction.

James 1:5 speaks of our need for spiritual wisdom, an emptiness that can only be satisfied by God.

When we seek God’s direction, he will guide us each and every step of the way, and his wisdom will flow LIBERALLY from his hand unto ours.

A – He ANSWERS our cry with a promise of plenty.

Joel 2:19 falls in the midst of a chapter describing the returning majesty of God’s unending grace. Falling right in the center of this passage is God’s promise of everlasting generosity.

We already have the ANSWER we need, even before we begin to pray.

R – He REIGNS in majesty forever and ever.

Exodus 15 is a song of praise from the Israelites, for the Egyptians had been cast into the sea. Verses 17-18 paint a picture of God with the mountains as his throne, and the earth as his sanctuary.

When God REIGNS over us, we become victors in every battle we fight.

Even the forbidding poles of our world are no more than a cooling respite for the King who calls them his own.
