Ejection Seat Living

In May of 2014, a Harrier jet crashed into a residential neighborhood in Southern California. The pilot managed to bail out of the plane and land safely nearby. No one on the ground was injured.

Yet, houses burned and an airplane worth tens of millions of dollars was destroyed. Should the pilot have gone down with his jet? Of course not! There comes a time when using our ejection seat becomes a very good idea. If we remain where we are, disaster will soon begin to loom very large in our sights.

Spiritually we sometimes face the same conundrum. If we say, “This is the place God gave me,” and we refuse to look at reality, then we are going to hit the ground hard, and there will be no recourse for our stupidity. Sometimes our only option is to trigger our ejection seat.

Then and only then can God really use us as he wills.

Let’s look at five examples of ejection seat living in action:

Ejection Seat Living Example #1:

John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”

Jesus could have stayed in heaven, enjoying the magnificence of the Father and all the heavenly beings. Instead, he rode his ejection seat to earth to show his love for all mankind.

Ejection Seat Living Example #2:

Genesis 2:24: “Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.”

It is when we leave the safety of our parents’ home that we can begin to foster the love of Christ in our new relationship.

Ejection Seat Living Example #3:

Genesis 1:1-31: “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. And God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light. And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day…”

God took a great risk in creating the heavens and the earth, for one day man would walk its surface, and oh, the trouble we have caused! Yet, to God, it was worth all the risk.

Ejection Seat Living Example #4:

2 Timothy 3:16: “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.”

If we only think in our own way, we will never find God’s way. We must flip the ejection seat lever and fly into the truth of God’s Word.

Ejection Seat Living Example #5:

Philippians 2:10-11: “So that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

This passage summarizes our entire purpose in this life. If we do not take this leap of faith, then what good is our Christianity? We will crash and burn. Our only hope of salvation is our ejection seat, directly into the arms of Christ.

To live in God’s ejection seat is to constantly be willing to change for him. To stand still is to stagnate. To stagnate is to die spiritually. Only by allowing God to vault us to new heights can we grow in him.

When life demands a change, and we use our ejection seat, our parachute is Christ, and he will bring us safely to the ground.
