Call it a Writ of Promise. Make it a Promissory Note. Even use the term Solemn Promise. No matter how we say it, it means we can depend on another person’s word that what’s said will be done.
How about God’s Word? Is it really true? When God proclaims that our land will be healed, or our children will be saved, can we be certain it will happen?
Let’s look to the book of 1 Chronicles. In Chapter 16 David gives his people five instructions to guarantee the promises of God.
First, we must give thanks to the Lord, and call upon his name.
Second, we must sing unto him of his wondrous works.
Third, we must rejoice in his holy name.
Fourth, we must seek the Lord continually.
Fifth, we must always remember the marvelous things he has done for us.
1 Chronicles 16:18 tells us what we get in return:
“Unto you will I give the land of Canaan, the lot of your inheritance.”
There are no exclusions to the deed to our Promised Land. God didn’t say, Except that which I’ve promised to someone else. The Word of God says the entire land is ours, every jot and tittle.
What land are we trying to claim? Is it the Canaan of physical health? If so, let’s strike our claim. We’ve already been given full title.
Is our Canaan found in our finances that have been overrun by creditors and bad circumstances? Let’s pull out God’s title deed and push out the enemy.
Have our personal relationships been choked like the Canaan of old, and we need to reclaim what’s ours? Let’s raise God’s standard and make Canaan ours once again.
God’s Biblical promise is the greatest title deed known to mankind. It’s guaranteed. Our Canaan isn’t up for grabs to the “best” or the “strongest” man. It’s ours because God promised, and he always honors his promises. All we need to do is follow David’s five steps, and what we’ve been promised will be ours once again.
Give thanks, sing and rejoice, seek the Lord, and remember his marvelous works. That’s the only formula for making God’s promises come to life.
