We love the sunshine.
Humans need to spend time soaking up the bright light of day. There’s a definitive link between the hours of sunlight we get each day and the number of suicides in the general population.
We can’t afford to live under a rock. We will die there. We must crawl out to find something better.
1 John 1:7 tells us:
“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.”
What we need to do is stand on top of the rock of salvation and bask in the light of heaven.
Matthew 16:18 tells us:
“And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”
We are not made to live underneath the rock. We are intended to stand on top of the rock and find our power in the glory of the Son of God who came to redeem us from our sins.
1 John 2:2 describes the ladder provided to ascend the rock:
“He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.”
It is through Christ that we take one step at a time toward the brilliance of the Father’s face shining on us from his glorious heavenly throne.
Revelation 20:10 reveals what will happen to the one who attempts to keep us under that rock:
“And the devil who had deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where the beast and the false prophet were, and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.”
We need the sunshine. We need the light of Christ in our lives. We need to be perched on the rock that is Peter, on which Christ has built his church.
We need to find the light and walk in it every day.
When we find Jesus, we’ll bask in his brilliance, and we’ll never want to climb under our rock ever again.
