The Christian music group Kutless put out a well-received song in 2012. One section of the lyrics references the times our healing doesn’t come from God. It’s all about having faith in our Lord no matter what happens in our lives.
Yet we cannot afford to doubt that God will do as he has proclaimed. That’s a path to self-fulfillment and a license to sin. God’s laws are true, and his promises will come to pass.
Nebuchadnezzar was witness to the miracle of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, the three Hebrews saved from the fiery furnace. He spoke so highly of them that he proclaimed that any man who spoke against the God of the Hebrews would be killed and cut into pieces.
Gruesome, huh? It showed that Nebuchadnezzar believed in the power of God. However, he refused to accept the authority of God.
In Daniel 4:31 we read God’s judgment against the king:
“While the word was in the king’s mouth, there fell a voice from heaven, saying, O, king Nebuchadnezzar, to you it is spoken; the kingdom is departed from you.”
That’s a scary place to find ourselves. We witness the power of the Lord, and we choose to look away. We believe, then we turn our back. Nebuchadnezzar did this, and his kingdom was stripped away that very day.
Daniel 4:33 lays out God’s timeframe:
“The same hour was the thing fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar: and he was driven from men, and did eat grass as oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, till his hairs were grown like eagles’ feathers, and his nails like birds’ claws.”
Woe to the king! All was lost! Or was it? The very next verse tells us that when Nebuchadnezzar lifted his eyes unto God, his kingdom was restored. Read of his transformation in Daniel 4:34:
“And at the end of the days I Nebuchadnezzar lifted up my eyes unto heaven, and my understanding returned unto me, and I blessed him who lives for ever, whose dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom is from generation to generation.”
Kutless hit the nail on the head with their song. Even when we don’t feel the healing of the Lord, he hasn’t left us. He waits for us to lift our eyes unto him. It’s all about having faith in our Lord no matter what happens in our lives.
When we search for God, he’ll always allow himself to be found.
