Proclaiming Our Victory

Youth is a time of protected victories. We want our children to feel the thrill of success without the fear of failure. We keep the harsh truth of life at bay: The world will try to beat us down every chance it gets.

We’re the prom queen, and we never feel quite as beautiful ever again. We lead the football team to a state championship, and once we graduate, we never play again.

That pizza we enjoyed so much in college? It’s now packed twenty pounds onto our frame. Our hair starts to thin, a mole turns into cancer, and our spouse, so adored during our honeymoon? He continually leaves his underwear on the bathroom floor.

Yuck!

The protected victories of youth don’t carry over well into adulthood. The economy crashes and burns, taking our savings with it. Our fledgling company is bought out in a hostile takeover. A storm takes out our home with all the treasured memories we’ve built there.

We have to proclaim our victory over what life throws our way.

Isaiah 64:2 tells us:

“As when the melting fire burns, the fire causes the waters to boil, to make your name known to your adversaries, that the nations may tremble at your presence.”

Now that’s a victory dance! When we struggle with life’s comers (and we will, there’s no doubt about that), God is our bulwark of defense. He will stand tall against that which attacks us. His fire will heat the waters until they boil with his fury, and his vapors of destruction will spread across our problems, driving them from us.

He is our mighty God and King, our Overcomer, our trusted Savior and Healer. There is no other that can stand in his presence, for he is the great Creator and Master of all that there is.

When God stands at our side, our every victory is a protected victory, because the hand of God covers us in everything we do.

When the world squeezes us, God squeezes the world, and it pops under the pressure of his mighty hand.
