Our Spa Day in Christ

What’s the good in a spa?

Everything, you exclaim!  Woohoo! Manicures and pedicures, cucumber face mask, and we’re feeling good now. Even a little massage time … bam, about to be a happy person!

Some of us may consider that self-indulgent, and it can be if we overdo it, but here’s what the Word tells us about our spa day in Leviticus 23:39-43 in the NIV Bible:

“So beginning with the fifteenth day of the seventh month, after you have gathered the crops of the land, celebrate the festival to the Lord for seven days; the first day is a day of sabbath rest, and the eighth day also is a day of sabbath rest. On the first day you are to take branches from luxuriant trees—from palms, willows and other leafy trees—and rejoice before the Lord your God for seven days. Celebrate this as a festival to the Lord for seven days each year. This is to be a lasting ordinance for the generations to come; celebrate it in the seventh month. Live in temporary shelters for seven days: All native-born Israelites are to live in such shelters so your descendants will know that I had the Israelites live in temporary shelters when I brought them out of Egypt. I am the Lord your God.”

That’s quite an eyeful of words, so let’s look at four “spa” opportunities this passage tells us the Lord wants us to experience.

Spa Opportunity No. 1: Celebrate the festival.

Celebrate. Read this word as party!! We are to make loud, sing bold, and gather with our friends in Christ. This is your spa day in Jesus!

Spa Opportunity No. 2: Take branches from luxuriant trees.

Luxuriant. Think about this word … no skimping on the party decorations. Your spa day is to be a special time done right.

Spa Opportunity No. 3: Rejoice for seven days.

We can’t slip in and slip out or squeeze in our spa day among all the other busy activities that take up our time. Seven days! You read that right. Take a spa week and live it up!

Spa Opportunity No. 4: Celebrate again each year.

Once your spa week begins to wind down, start making plans for next year. God wants you to do this over again … and again … and on and on.

Your spa day is about rejoicing in the Lord, about giving him credit for the special things he has done in your life, about celebrating your relationship with him. You are meant to enjoy your time with him.

When we invite God to the party, the good times never end!

Excerpt of the Day

A promise to the devil can be laughed off when we have Jesus standing at our side. A promise from the devil is worthless, and should be laughed off even faster.
