Is it okay to be angry at God?
How about when we feel God’s made us a promise, and it falls flat over and over?
Or the person we love betrays us, perhaps in death, when God had promised us a full life together?
How about when the deepest desire of our heart is denied us – the very desire other Christians celebrate, but for us it’s forbidden?
How can we celebrate a God who cares so little that we continually come up with the short stick?
Does God even have a plan, or is our life clicking along without rhyme or reason?
“Hey, God. It’s me,” we cry. “Don’t you even notice?”
Psalm 22:1-3 reveals a Man of God who dealt with the same feelings toward God.
“My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, from the words of my groaning? O my God, I cry by day, but you do not answer, and by night, but I find no rest. Yet you are holy, enthroned on the praises of Israel.”
This passage doesn’t give us the resolution to David’s frustration with God, but we see something very important in his final words.
Yet. You. Are. Holy.
David questioned God’s providence in his life, but he never questioned the divinity of the Lord. Even in his desperation for a response from heaven, the poet still recognized that God was empowered by praise, and David lifted his words of worship unto the heavens.
We will have times when we can’t find the hand of God in our lives. There are days we will feel abandoned. What’s important in our low times is not to forget that God is still on his throne, and he still covers us with his hand in all situations.
When life batters us, our only option is to lift our hands in praise to the Father of Creation and to sing his praises to all who will listen.
God is our source and our strength, and in our praise, we draw closer to him.
