We all have an opinion about love, about what it is, how it makes us feel, and what it means to not experience it.
Helen Keller, famous American spokeswoman, said, “The best and most beautiful things in this world cannot be seen or even heard, but must be felt with the heart.”
For those of us who are unfamiliar with Helen Keller, at a very early age she lost both her hearing and her sight. She was an expert on what the important things were. She could only feel, and she did it best with her heart.
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, German writer and statesman, once famously said, “We are shaped and fashioned by those we love.”
Yet we only know we are loved in return when someone tells us so.
When we tell our Father in heaven we love him, we become the most beautiful thing in all creation to him, and that shapes who he is. He wraps his love around us, because we call out our love to him.
Let’s exalt our Most High God with Love Letters of Praise!
Psalm 99:5 tells us:
“Exalt the Lord our God; worship at his footstool! Holy is he!”
1 Chronicles 16:29 says:
“Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; bring an offering and come before him! Worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness.”
Judges 5:3 admonishes us:
“Hear, O kings; give ear, O princes; to the Lord I will sing; I will make melody to the Lord, the God of Israel.”
Psalm 150:1-5 gives us a plan of action:
“Praise the Lord! Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens! Praise him for his mighty deeds; praise him according to his excellent greatness! Praise him with trumpet sound; praise him with lute and harp! Praise him with tambourine and dance; praise him with strings and pipe! Praise him with sounding cymbals; praise him with loud clashing cymbals!”
Mahatma Gandhi, Indian political leader, gave his take on love: “Where there is love there is life.”
To turn that around for the Christian, we might say, “When we fall in love with God, he brings us new life.”
We trigger God’s love to us when we first offer our love to him.
