Five Gold Rings

12 Days of Christmas – 5th Gift

However, none seem to have any real meaning except for joyful irreverence during the Christmas season.

The fifth gift we sing about is Five Gold Rings. What spiritual meaning can we derive from the metallic bands presented as a gift on the fifth day?

Look to Exodus 39, where we read of the vestments of the high priest. Most significant are verses 16-21, for it is in this passage we learn the meaning of the gold rings attached to the vestments.

They are there to bind the breastplate to the ephod.

We are tied to Christ in the same manner with Five Gold Rings.

1st Gold Ring represents Jesus’ birth in the manger.

2nd Gold Ring represents Jesus’ salvation message.

3rd Gold Ring represents Jesus’ death on the cross.

4th Gold Ring represents Jesus’ risen glory.

5th Gold Ring represents Jesus’ triumphant return on the final day of the Lord.

The Five Gold Rings in the song, The Twelve Days of Christmas, are sung with bold abandon. Let us belt them out with yet another reason, the Five Gold Rings binding us to Christ.

Jesus came in a manger that we might be one with the Father through Jesus the Son.
