A summer day filled with rain is like a sparkling jewel broken off a beautiful ring and tossed into the sea. It is wasted forever, and it can never be retrieved to be enjoyed ever again.
Yet, to bask in the glorious rays of the summer sun is to find delight in our days. That is what God does in our lives. He gives us delight in the midst of the morning, and he shines his mercy on us during the afternoon. He is there for us anew each day, and we can trust in him to lift us up. He is the bright sun that brings us life.
Let’s look at our SUNNY God:
S – His presence adds SWEETNESS to our walk with him.
Solomon 5:13 describes the face of our beloved, for “his cheeks are as a bed of spices, as SWEET flowers: his lips like lilies, dropping sweet smelling myrrh.”
Our God brings us joy and bountiful gifts of beauty. We will find our fulfillment in him.
U – The UTTERINGS of his lips speak blessings and reassurance upon our lives.
Jeremiah 10:13 reveals the strength of God’s spoken words, for “when he UTTERS his voice, there is a multitude of waters in the heavens, and he causes the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth; he makes lightning with rain, and brings forth the wind out of his treasures.”
All it takes is his spoken word, and the world becomes what he desires it to be.
N – He NAMES all that is and was, and he holds it in his hand.
Psalm 147:4 exemplifies the far-reaching power of God, for “he tells the number of the stars; he calls them all by their NAMES.”
Not only does our God shine upon us, he is the light for a billion other worlds across our galaxy and beyond. All creation is his to offer to mankind.
N – He NOURISHES us as we walk in his ways.
Colossians 2:19 tells us our NOURISHMENT in Christ comes from those who walk at our side, for “the whole body, NOURISHED and knit together through its joints and ligaments, grows with a growth that is from God.”
God provides the brilliance of his love, and that spreads throughout the church, enabling us to lift up one another.
Y – He breaks the YOKES that bind us that we might be free.
Ezekiel 34:27 assures us we will not be bound by the rain, for God says, “They shall know that I am the Lord, when I break the bars of their YOKE, and deliver them…”
The clouds of life cannot occlude the sun forever, for God stands above us, and he will part the clouds and give us deliverance.
When we see the face of God, everything is made right once again, for the brilliance of his love washes away all night.
