Walking in the Body

―  Now you can also find us at www.MyChurchNotes.com  ―

How do we see our role in the Body of Christ? Are we pew potatoes, or do we have our shirtsleeves rolled up, ready to work? If our sleeves are rolled, how can we find God’s direction?

Turn to Acts 2:42-47 where we are presented with five facets of the Christian walk.

The disciples broke bread with one another.

We must have a connection to those in our local body. We must attend the church service regularly, because that allows us to see those we worship with. We must develop relationships with them, and that involves finding a place to showcase our talents, one that includes others.

They pooled their resources, giving to those in need.

We must show we care, and those outside the church must be able see it. We must show the larger community Jesus’ love, and that comes through our hands.

They added to their numbers as God gave them favor.

This is where our hearts must be, in evangelism and missions. These are at the core of the Christian message. In Matthew 28:19, the Word tells us to go and teach all nations.

They praised God continually.

We must always strive to go deeper in worship. To stay where we are is to slide backward. Exodus 23:25 tells us that if we worship him, he will provide for our needs.

They showed respect for the power of God.

This is all about biblical knowledge and character development. To train up others, we must teach the upcoming generations about the Word of God. We must share what God has allowed us to learn.

Proverbs 22:6 instructs us to train up a child in the way he should go so that he will not depart from it.

Hebrews 11:6 says that without faith, it is impossible to please him. If we seek him, he will reward us.

How do we seek God? Prayer. God wants his church to be a praying church, even at the cost of everything else we do for him. No matter the buildings we build or the programs we initiate, if we forgo his direction, all else is as dross.

If we don't have a prayer life, we must build one. If we have one, we must develop it. When we allow God to speak to us from his heart, he can lead us, and our hands will become the hands of Jesus.
