Making a Choice for Love

English Audio Version

We can’t overlook Jesus’ willingness to be crucified.

He prayed through the night while his disciples slept, choosing to accept the fate his Father had assigned him, death on the cross, one of the most painful ways to die known to the Roman overlords.

While he could have said no, he chose to say yes. This revealed his determination to act as a bridge to the redemption of humanity.

John 10:18 reveals Jesus' choice:

"No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord."

Jesus’ most soul-searing example of making a choice to remain on the cross and his ultimate act of love and sacrifice is his acceptance of the punishment for all the sins of humanity.

As God turns his face away at the moment of his death, Jesus lets the pain roll over him, taking it in to become our path for reconciliation with God.

The nails were never enough to hold Jesus on the cross.

His arms and feet were not bound by the hands of the Roman soldiers.

He could have called on the heavenly host to release him and lift him to the foot of his Father’s throne.

His love for mankind was the thing that held him there.
