Why are wrapped packages so special to us?
We don’t know what’s inside. Until we look at the card, we don’t even know who it’s from.
Uncle Bob might have given us a piece of coal because of the scratch we put on his new car.
Aunt Betty doesn’t visit often. She might send us a baby toy, rather than the push bike we really want.
Then there’s shirts, socks, and underwear. Not very exciting, are they?
So why do we check them out when we think no one’s watching, gently shake them, and run our hands over the wrapper to see if we can feel what’s inside?
2 Corinthians 5:17 (NIV) will help us understand.
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”
The old has gone. The new is here.
That’s the magic of the Christmas package.
It’s what makes our walk with Jesus so exciting. Whatever we were, we are no longer that. What is inside our new Christian package? Will we become a sock, a push bike, or something bigger in God’s kingdom?
We are a new creation. When the world unwraps the new creature that we have become, the possibilities are endless.
The key here is that we must be in Christ for our new creature to break from the mold of the old and become a brand-new thing in him.
Accept Christ, model your life after his example in the Bible, and you can become the best Christian package anyone has ever opened. The old will be gone, and you will be new in him.
