America is a land of undeniable beauty. Even our songs boast of our shining seas, our majestic mountains, and our spacious skies. Every state has something that makes it special, from the mountains of Colorado, to the pristine beaches lining Alabama’s shores, to the grand deserts covering much of Arizona.
Yet, at whose hand did all these things come into being?
Ecclesiastes 3:11 tells us:
“He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, he has put eternity into man’s heart, yet so that he cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end.”
Isn’t that just like God? He gives us all the beauty in creation, and he refuses to reveal just how he did it.
Even mankind fits into the beauty of the kingdom, for we are the most complex of all that God has formed with his great hand.
Genesis 1:27 tells us:
“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.”
Humanity is beautiful, with all our quirks, flaws, and idiosyncrasies. Why? Because we are formed in the image of the Almighty Father. That’s the very reason he continually calls us back to him.
Exodus 20:1-17 gives us his call to his children:
“And God spoke all these words, saying, ‘I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. You shall have no other gods before me. You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. You shall not bow down to them or serve them…’ ”
Why does God continually call us back to him? Because we are beautiful, and he loves us as his children. We are cast in his image, and he is continually drawn unto us.
This earth, created by God, is a stunning example of his handiwork. It is beautiful in every way. Yet, God considers us so much more beautiful, and he draws us to him with every ounce of his being.
When we turn to him, he will show us his love, and we will be welcomed into his arms.
When we look in the mirror, we can see the image of God, for he looks back at us through our eyes.
