In His Perfect Image

There are times when copying someone else’s work is not acceptable, and other times when we want to make copies, and good ones, too.

Take money, for example. If we want to copy money, it has to be perfect. Not one jot or tittle can be out of place. Every curlicue, the shading of every mark, even the colored threads in the paper must be exacting. If it’s not perfect, it’s worthless. However, to copy money is also forgery, and it’s quite illegal.

However, a publisher makes his living by creating perfect copies. The pages must be aligned just so, the printing clear, and each word must reflect the ones written by the author’s own hand. To vary one vowel or consonant is to impugn the original creation and to bring derision on the publisher’s head.

God is the perfect editor. He has the rights of publication, the resources to make as many copies as he wants, and through his creative abilities, the right to tweak changes in his written works even after they hit the market.

Read in Genesis 1:27:

“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.”

Genesis 2:7 reveals the creative process:

“Then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature.”

Jeremiah 1:5 gives us his intents:

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.”

However, there are times when God’s perfect creation falls into the mud. It becomes damaged, and it needs to be returned to its original and pristine form.

1 John 1:9 gives us our renewal process:

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

We are born from the mold of God, a perfect copy of him, living creatures filled with the breath of life. We are here to proclaim the wonders of creation to the world. Yet, with use, we will become sullied. Even so, we are still God’s creation, and he desires to make us new once more. To be refreshed, all we need to do is turn to him.

John 8:32 tells us:

“And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

That truth is found in the Word of God, and in the Word, we are truly free to follow the Christ who died on the cross for our sins. Let’s let him wash us clean once more.

Perfection in Jesus is the perfection that God originally intended us to know.
