We are always waiting on something. There are red lights, check-out lines, and microwaves counting down the seconds until our lunch is ready. There are other things we’re advised to wait on: to get married; to buy that vacation home; to have that third child.
However, there is one thing we must reach out and grab now.
Acts 22:16 tells us:
“And now why do you wait? Rise and be baptized and wash away your sins, calling on his name.”
We don’t have a choice at a red light, a check-out line, or standing in front of the microwave, but we do have a choice with salvation.
Mark 16:16 states:
“Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.”
Take, for example, marriage. We are encouraged to wait for the right person, but not to marry? Few people choose that lonely road. We already know Jesus is our spiritual bride, so let’s get hitched.
Titus 3:5 says:
“He saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit.”
Our vacation home is a place for relaxation and fellowship. Christ offers us the same in his eternal presence.
1 John 1:7 informs us:
“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.”
Our third child? Why wait to bring others into the kingdom? The time is now.
Mark 16:15 is our encouragement to grow the kingdom:
“And he said to them, ‘Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.’ ”
Learning to wait is an important part of our human development. It teaches us patience. Yet, to wait to move toward God is false patience. Rather, we give it a different name. It’s no more than procrastination, brought on by indifference, laziness, or misunderstanding. Whatever the excuse, we must answer the question: Why do we wait?
Let’s move out for God. He has plans for us, and when we join hands with him, he will lead us forward.
When we see God coming, let’s leap onto the water and run to him.
