All good hotels do it. Some phone companies provide this service. We can even subscribe to plans that will notify us of impending events, down to the time we need to wake each morning.
We have a wakeup call about to ring forth across the whole earth. God has provided the contract, the pending schedule, and the method of delivery.
Genesis 11:6-9 changed man’s plans:
“And the Lord said, ‘Behold…nothing that they propose to do will now be impossible for them. …And from there the Lord dispersed them over the face of all the earth.”
Joshua 1:1-2 revealed a new direction for God’s people:
“After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, the Lord said to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses' assistant, ‘Moses my servant is dead. Now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, into the land that I am giving to them…’ ”
Luke 18:8 tells us to think differently:
“I tell you, he will give justice to them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?”
Psalm 19:4-6 reveals all that we are:
“Their voice goes out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. …There is nothing hidden from [him].”
1 Thessalonians 4:16 is the End of Days:
“For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.”
What wakeup call have we subscribed to? Or have we decided to sleep in, risking the chance that we will miss God’s trumpet call?
We can read in Isaiah 13:13 of the One that brings us his eternal majesty in the day of our final awakening:
“Therefore I will make the heavens tremble, and the earth will be shaken out of its place, at the wrath of the Lord of hosts in the day of his fierce anger.”
If we sleep through the rising of the sun, we will miss the breaking of God’s new dawn.
