No More Than a Flash of Light

beam of light travels at 186,000 miles per second. Not per hour, but per second. That’s 3,600 times faster than 186,000 miles per hour.

Light is here, and it’s gone.

So, when we say something is gone in a flash, it’s 186,000 miles away in one second. It’s here, and then it’s gone, and it’s so far away it cannot affect us anymore, at all, ever again. We are free of it.

What do we need to be free of? Whatever it is, when we give it to God, it becomes no more than a flash of light, and it is immediately cast from us as far as the ends of the earth are from each other.

Farther, in fact. The earth is only 8,000 miles through the center and 24,000 miles around the equator. When we give something to God, it’s not even on this earth to come back and haunt us.

2 Corinthians 11:14 tells us that:

“…Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.”

That statement has two meanings. The first is that at first appearance, Satan is beautiful. The second is that just like a beam of light, if we ignore him, he flashes on by at a breakneck speed, and he is gone from us, no more than a flash of brilliance to be forgotten, because at that speed, in one second he is no longer on the face of the earth. He is out of our sight, kaput, sayonara, and the least of our worries.

Rather, let’s focus on God.

1 John 2:2 gives us our first bit of good news:

“He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.”

This is exactly what the devil tries to distract us from. He doesn’t want us to see the true Christ.

2 Peter 3:9 is our assurance that we will find Jesus when we reach out to him:

“The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.”

When we remove the sunglasses of sin, we will see the shining light of the Father above.

Ephesians 2:8-9 tells us how easy it is to come to him:

“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.”

It’s like flipping the switch on a flashlight. The light is just there.

Hebrews 6:1 lines out how we can be assured we will never again be distracted by Satan:

“Therefore let us leave the elementary doctrine of Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God.”

He is our power source, and by trusting in him, his Holy Light shining through us will never be dimmed.

The devil is a flash of brilliance that fades as soon as he distracts us from the Holy Presence of God Almighty. However, Jesus is the switch that turns up the power, and against the awe-inspiring brilliance of God, we cannot see Satan’s wimpy light anywhere around us. It comes, and it’s gone, no more than a flash of light that has nothing to do with us.

When we continually watch Jesus, we won’t notice the devil as he flashes out of our presence, farther away than the most distant heavenly bodies.
