Walking Wounded

In March of 2012, a 6-year-old boy in India climbed on a construction site to get a better view of the celebration of Holi, the Festival of Colors.

It is a fabulous celebration to watch, as people run around all day throwing colored powders and liquids on one another. In the excitement, little Mihir slipped and fell onto a 5-foot iron rod.

The rod pierced his stomach, starting on his left side, bisecting his torso, and exiting on his right side.

Mihir became one of the walking wounded, alive when he should be dead, and mystifying doctors and holy men alike.

  • Acts 4:12 says that we are all dead, unless we call upon the name of the Lord.
  • Matthew 10:28 tells us the death of our bodies is of no concern, for the one who can destroy our souls is the one we should fear.
  • 1 Peter 4:6 reminds us that we are dead already, even as we walk the earth, but we become alive in the spirit, even as we hear the gospel of the Christ.
  • 1 Corinthians 15:22 spells out where our concerns should lie. Everyone will die, for we are sons of Adam. However, when we become sons of the living God, through Christ we will be made alive.

Little Mihir was walking wounded, pierced by an iron rod, yet still living and breathing. That is all of mankind, pierced by sin, yet still living and breathing. However, if the sin is allowed to remain, death is sure, for no one can live with the rusty rod of sin bisecting his soul. It is a death sentence, as surely as the darkness in the night sky.

We must do as little Mihir did. The iron rod was pulled from his body, and he recovered fully. When we allow Jesus to pull the iron rod of sin from our lives, we will be fully healed in him.

We are healed of sin’s crippling catastrophe when we allow Jesus to remove its rotten remains from our lives.
