John Lennon of “Beatles” fame was an open and gregarious man, willing and eager to greet fans and sign autographs. He was killed by Mark David Chapman outside his apartment just hours after he greeted Chapman and signed an album for him.
Rebecca Schaeffer signed an autograph for Robert John Bardo moments before he fatally shot her.
Selena, the singer, was fatally shot by Yolanda Saldivar three weeks after being dismissed from managing Selena’s fan club.
Thank goodness Jack Jordan, Grim LeRogue, and Dante Michael Soiu were put away before they could injure the celebrities they stalked. Otherwise, Uma Thurman, Alex Rodriguez, and Gwyneth Paltrow might not be alive today.
Christians are being stalked by the most well-known stalker of all time. Just as in the cases of the celebrities mentioned above, a stalker makes his presence known before he strikes. He appears, he follows, and then he takes us down. The devil is our infamous stalker. He hovers around us, tempting us, and when we don’t call the cops, he throws his nets over us, and we are his. Then he takes us down, and he kills us spiritually.
1 Peter 5:8 encourages us to be sober-minded, because the devil stalks us, seeking to kill us.
2 Corinthians 11:14 warns us that our stalker will appear to be beautiful and attractive, and he will be hard to resist.
John 8:44 tells us the devil’s minions are equally vile, for they speak the lies of their father.
So, what is to be done? Must we succumb to our insidious stalker? No! Rather, we are to call upon the one who was lifted on the cross, for he can cut the legs from under our attacker, and we will be freed to live in Christ.
Revelations 20:10 is our victory dance, for the devil who deceived the saints will be thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur, along with the minions who have supported him.
We can see our stalker circling us in our television shows, the breakdown of our families, and across the pages of our newspapers. When the stalker makes himself known, we are wise to call God’s 9-1-1 line and let him take care of the problem.
He will, you know. He will lock the devil away, and we will be lifted up to stand with him.
When our adversary makes himself known, it’s time to call in the reinforcements. It’s time to call in Jesus.
