There is a method of canning that requires us to heat our food, then turn the jars upside down until they cool. This process provides a seal that protects our food and keeps it safe from mold and other contaminants.
Upside down canning. We flip things over to get the result we want.
We make a complete change in the way we do things. We turn over a new leaf, clean up our act, and put on a new suit of clothes.
We run from sin.
James 5:20 tells us that upside down canning works for the sinner. If we turn a sinner upside down, we will save him from death. We will seal his soul from the attacks of the devil, and we will keep him safe from the contaminants of the world.
The sinner’s salvation will also cover a multitude of sins.
Who is the sinner? Romans 8:23 says all people have sinned.
How do we turn the sinner upside down? Romans 10:9-10 tells us to confess with our mouths and believe that God raised Jesus from the dead, and we will be saved.
What can contaminate our Christ-sealed salvation? Romans 8:38-39 reveals that neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else that has been created, can break through the seal of Christ.
What fruit will people find in us as proof of our salvation? Luke 3:8 tells us we will produce fruit in keeping with our repentance.
Who is God willing to save? Hebrews 7:25 says that anyone who comes to God through Jesus is a candidate for salvation, for Jesus lives for the purpose of intercession before the Father.
Canning jar theology. Turn the sinner upside down to bring him to Christ. Only when we change everything about who we are do we show the world that we have dedicated our lives to Christ. Then and only then the world will see Jesus living in us.
It takes an about face to find Jesus. He expects us to run from sin directly into his arms.
