What do we want to make sure we do before we die? That’s our bucket list: those things we’ve always dreamed of but continually put aside because other things get in the way.
Our bucket list. Our awesome list. Our life goals. The dream list of things we’d love to accomplish in this life if only things would go our way.
Bucket list is an old-fashioned term, one long overused, our younger generation thinks, but the meaning behind it drives us to reach for bigger and better things in life.
We want a family. Goal achieved. A house. Check it off. A corner office. Done.
Where’s God on our list? How can we make sure he’s part of our dream list of things we’d love to accomplish in this life?
Maybe it’s not up to us. John 6:44 tells us:
“No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him. And I will raise him up on the last day.”
What we need to see is that this isn’t about our bucket list. It’s about God’s awesome list of things to do.
Oh, does that mean God has a bucket list, also?
Now we’re thinking on the same page. We’re God’s number one item on his amazing list of things to do while we’re on this earth. He’s already made the stars, the heavens, the earth, and Mars. He’s fashioned the plants and the animals. He’s done it all, except won all of humanity’s hearts back to him.
That’s God’s bucket list. Each time a sinner falls to his or her knees, God pulls out his list and smiles. He checks us off and thinks to himself, “Wow, but does that feel good. I’ve always wanted that to happen.”
We are on God’s bucket list. Our personal salvation is the only thing he hasn’t done in all of creation.
Let’s help God fulfill his bucket list. Let’s walk at his side every day of our lives.
When we make God happy, we will be happy, too.
