All-Stars for Christ

Softball is a game of threes. There are three bases plus home. Three strikes and the batter’s out. If a pitcher hits three batters with the ball, the pitcher is removed from the game.

In some games, such as coach pitch, three outs can bring the outfield in, or there might be three hits maximum per inning.

In softball, the number three plays a deciding factor in determining the winner.

What about in our Christian walk? An early example is Jonah’s three days in the whale. Then there are the three faces of the Trinity, Jesus’ three years of ministry, or the three days before he rose again.

God also has three expectations of men if they are to enter the kingdom of God. The list is found in Micah 6:8.

1st Expectation:

We are to be honest in our dealings with our fellow man.

This is not a path to salvation, but rather a result of true conversion and lifelong commitment to Christ and his teachings.

2nd Expectation:

We are to show mercy to those who don’t deserve it.

If we are forgiving to those who sweet-talk us, what credit is that in God’s eyes? God desires us to show mercy and forgiveness even to those who abuse us. We must respect those whose only reward should be a blistering rebuke.

3rd Expectation:

We are to let the credit for our good deeds go to God.

If we claim the praise in any good situation, then we have received our reward. To build up a reservoir of plenty in God’s heavenly city, we must show humility before our fellow man while on this earth.

God has shown us how to play the game. If we fulfill God’s three expectations, we will hit a home run, and there will be none who can tag us out. We will be All-Stars on the team of Christ.

If we play on God’s team, we will win every time.

Excerpt of the Day

When Jesus comes to us, we must be ready to respond to him in the moment of his passing.
