A New Song of Kindness

“He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the Lord.” — Psalm 40:3 (ESV)

Young people often face challenges adults can't imagine. School, easy? Not on your life.

As someone who’s following Jesus just like them, I encourage you to share with them this powerful verse from Psalm 40:3. When God does something in their hearts, it changes how they speak, how they live, and how they treat others. The Bible says he puts a new song in our mouths—a song that praises him and impacts the people around us.

What does that look like at school? It looks like kindness.

Kindness is their “new song” in the hallway. It’s choosing to speak life when others are tearing people down. It’s noticing the classmate sitting alone and inviting them to join in. It’s refusing to laugh at someone’s mistake just to fit in. That new song of Jesus inside them makes them different—and that’s a good thing.

Think about this: When someone is having a rough day, a small act of kindness could be the one thing that helps them believe there's still good in the world. That’s what the second part of the verse means. “Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the Lord.” When people see God’s love in our actions, it draws them closer to him.

Maybe there’s someone in their class who always gets ignored or talked about behind their back. What if they were the one to change that story? Not because they are trying to be popular, but because they’ve got a “new song” in their heart—one that sings of grace, love, and kindness.

People don’t have to be loud or perfect. They just have to be willing to shine God’s light.

Remember this: God’s kindness changed you, and now He wants to use you to change someone else. Be the reason someone sees Jesus at school.
