That’s a baseball term, to “hit something out of the park.”
It means that we have total control of our time at bat. We can run the bases without interference. No one can stop us or get in our way.
We’re home free, and so is anyone else on base at the time we made our play.
Proverbs offers us four ways we can hit it out of the park in our walk with Jesus.
Our 1st Way to Hit It Out of the Park:
Just because you know something doesn’t mean you must tell it.
Proverbs 20:19 says:
“Whoever goes about slandering reveals secrets; therefore do not associate with a simple babbler.”
Our 2nd Way to Hit It Out of the Park:
Respect the privacy of fellow Christians, especially if it will cause them embarrassment or harm.
Proverbs 11:13 says:
“Whoever goes about slandering reveals secrets, but he who is trustworthy in spirit keeps a thing covered.”
Our 3rd Way to Hit It Out of the Park:
If gossip makes its way to you, shut it down on the spot. No repeating allowed. We don’t know the damage the gossip will do.
Proverbs 18:8 says:
“The words of a whisperer are like delicious morsels; they go down into the inner parts of the body.”
Our 4th Way to Hit It Out of the Park:
Let truth be your guide. If you don’t have the facts . . . if someone else cannot support their assertions . . . if it’s hearsay, let it die as it enters your ears.
Proverbs 26:20-21 says:
“For lack of wood the fire goes out, and where there is no whisperer, quarreling ceases. As charcoal to hot embers and wood to fire, so is a quarrelsome man for kindling strife.”
If our righteousness in God creates dissension in the body of Christ, we’ve failed as Christians.
Kindness matters. Kindness counts. Kindness brings Christians together.
When we let our words and our actions reveal the kindness of our Lord, we’re living a life that hits our salvation out of the park.
