No one much likes testing days.
What junior high student has shown up at the breakfast table with excitement in her eyes, and when asked to explain, says, “We get to take a test today.”
That’s not happening, not in any parent’s dream.
Yet, tests create important milestones in our lives. Take the one that happens at sixteen, our driver’s test.
Yah, you might see a gleam of excitement over that one. Yet, it’s not the test that brings on the excitement. It’s the thought of getting the keys to the family car that elicits your teen’s enthusiasm.
So, when God gives us a test, what are we like? Do we show up at breakfast moping with red eyes, or do we jump into the car, asking, “Can I drive on the way to take my test?”
1 Peter 1:22 reveals the test God lays out in front of us.
“Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart.”
Here’s four ways we can pass this test:
1. Be kind.
2. Be generous.
3. Be attentive.
And the final thing you must do to earn God’s passing score:
4. Expect nothing in return.
See, you’re being kind, generous, and attentive, but not because it benefits you. You do it because you are filled with the love of God.
So, how are your testing days coming along? Each morning when you open your eyes, God says, “Testing day. Show me what you can do.”
Let’s prove we love Jesus by showing love to everyone we meet.
