Has someone stepped on your feelings?
Have they bumped into you, and you’ve reacted badly? You wanted to erase the unintentional offense, but you knew the other person hadn’t forgotten?
There’s an answer for that. You need to turn up the terrific.
Read about it in 1 Peter 4:8.
“Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins.”
Here’s how it works. Even if someone is irritated with you, go ahead and say good morning. Greet them with a smile.
At lunch, offer them a cookie. Put it on a napkin, set it beside them, and say, “I was thinking of you.”
Do the nice thing every time. Hold the door. Offer them a pencil. Give them a CD of your favorite songs. Invite them to your after-work gatherings even if they never accept.
Love them lots. Do what you do best. Turn up the most terrific parts of yourself, and soon, your unintentional offense will wash away like dust in a summer rain.
It’s like with Jesus and us. His love covers every sin. If we care enough, unintentional slights will be water off a duck’s back. People will remember the cookie, the door, the pencil. They will remember the terrific parts about us, and our relationship will be right as rain.
Living like Jesus changes everything about us for the better.
