4 Considerations for Respecting Others

English Audio Version

The Ten Commandments are straight from the Bible.

God’s rules. The Almighty’s guide for living a righteous life.

Yet, there’s not much there about how to treat those we live with each day.

Well, nothing, really. It’s all not, not, not … apart from the fourth one, to honor your father and your mother.

The rest, yah, it sets up fences we’re not to break through.

The letters to the Thessalonians in the New Testament diverge from that tradition and set our personal guidelines in order.

1 Thessalonians 4:9 says:

“Now concerning brotherly love you have no need for anyone to write to you, for you yourselves have been taught by God to love one another.”

Wait, you cry. This doesn’t teach us anything. It only says it doesn’t need to teach us. Something’s missing here, like the instructions for respecting those around us.

There’s the flaw in your reasoning. See, we have the New Testament, an entire tome chock full of how to love (respect) one another.

How did Jesus say it in Matthew 7:12?

“So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.”

There, the New Testament and the Old summed up in one sentence, giving us 4 Considerations for Respecting Others.

Consideration No. 1:

Don’t be partial. (James 2:9)

Consideration No. 2:

Pay what you owe. (Romans 13:7)

Consideration No. 3:

Mind the law of the land. (Hebrews 13:17)

Consideration No. 4:

Share the credit. (Philippians 2:3)

There they are. The Bible is chock full of more. Get in there. Read it. Be the kind person God wants you to be.

Respect is at the core of our Christian walk. Never compromise how you treat others.
