We’re familiar with the saying that you get what you work for.
It’s up to us to get ahead, because the early bird gets the worm.
There’s no easy ride to the top. You’ve gotta burn your candle at both ends, because if you don’t work, you don’t eat.
Whoa! God says to get off that roller coaster. He has another mantra we need to espouse.
It’s better to give than receive.
Let’s break down Psalm 41:1-2 to learn the 5 benefits we receive when we put others first.
The passage starts off:
“Blessed is the one who considers the poor!”
We could restate this introduction as “Blessed is the man who is generous to those who are in need.”
Benefit No. 1:
“In the day of trouble the Lord delivers him.”
When we face financial setbacks, God will restore our finances.
Benefit No. 2:
“The Lord protects him.”
When danger is our companion, God is our safeguard and shield.
Benefit No. 3:
“The Lord … keeps him alive.”
Our health and physical welfare become God’s passion.
Benefit No. 4:
“He is called blessed in the land.”
We receive public recognition for the good things God does for us.
Benefit No. 5:
“You do not give him up to the will of his enemies.”
Those who oppose us are crushed by God’s holy power.
Jesus had it right. We must do unto others what we want them to do unto us.
When we treat our fellow man with kindness and consideration, even to giving them our time and money when they are in need, God’s heart is moved, and his blessing will cover us.
When we do right by others, we do right by God.
