A fancy meal is a treat to enjoy.
Much of our pleasure is in the table setting, but the true draw is the variety of foods. The sight and smell of favorite dishes grip us with anticipation.
We want to sample each one. It would make no sense to us if we were served only one dish out of the variety set before us. Even the main course would be a disappointment if we were denied access to all the rest.
There’s so much more to our Christian walk than salvation. That’s the main course, but there’s side dishes galore, all of which are tasty treats.
2 Peter 1:5-8 reveals our dining extravaganza.
“For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
When people spend time with us during the day, do they get just the main course, or are we filled with all the trimmings? Do we reveal Christ only through our words, or are we so overloaded with him that our Lord is seen in each action we take?
When Jesus becomes our reason, he’ll be in everything we do, and there’ll be more than enough of him to share.
